In a quest to push Zimbabwe’s fashion industry on the international stage, Zimbabwe’s leading fashion houses, Chenesai Brand, founded by Chenesai Mangoma and Zuvva Fashion Hub founded by Joyce Chimanye have merged their two campaigns, Wear Local Campaign and WearZim to form the WearZim Love Local campaign. The purpose of the collaboration is to effectively boost the local design and manufacturing industries through promotion of local fashion products. The fashion and design industry in Africa is booming and headed for its peak, yet Zimbabwean designers are missing from the limelight. The WearZim movement aims to encourage Zimbabweans to wear apparel, accessories, and footwear designed and manufactures in Zimbabwe by designers and manufacturers based in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe’s leading radio station, Star FM is one of the pioneering supporters and will host a networking event, scheduled to take place at their studios incorporating fashion exhibitions to promote WearZim Campaign. Below are some of the designers that will be taking part in the campaign as well what they had to say about the new initiative.

CZeeRat has a thing of playing around with fabric, mixing textiles, colours and a special attention to the finishing detail.
Character and personality completes the garments which mostly cater for individuals that have a good taste for style and timeless pieces.
It is important to be part of this movement which encourages Zimbabweans to take pride in wearing local. Such an approach towards local clothing will ensure the fashion industry thrives. Know your designers.

I am so charmed to meet and mingle with radio personalities whom we only get to hear their voices. A great initiative that comes with the rare opportunity to put the faces on the voices we hear on the radio.

Zahra is a Woman-centric, Passion filled fashion collection with unique aesthetic designs. Zahra seeks to promote and preserve African culture through its tailor made garments. The brand is anchored on the passion for designs that l love to showcase to the world.

I resonate with the values of WearZim. I love the idea of being part of a movement in its inception. This is unique opportunity to explore more and to build a strong 💪 foundation in the Zim fashion industry.
I hope WearZim will open more doors for upcoming designers like us to make our brands recognized as well as mentorship programs that will equip us with skills to efficiently run our brands.

Zanorashe, a modern Zimbabwean fashion brand is focused on creating a unique and alternative fashion culture through easy style and impeccable tailoring.

Zanorashe is part of the WearZim movement because we believe in the power of local fashion be it individually or through collaboration. I truly believe it is up to us as designers to set the narrative and make people believe in our art and craft.

AfrikanCitizzen is an Afrocentric design house specializing in apparels and accessories for men and women. AfrikanCitizzen will dress you from the boardroom to the sandy beaches, which distinguishes the brand from traditional fashion houses. It was founded in 2013 by Simbarashe Tirivangani with the aim of clothing the modern man and woman who desire to stay in touch with their African roots and in remain stylish.

We are participating in the WearZim movement to expose Zimbabwe’s rich talent to the Zimbabweans and create a market of loyal consumers. Participating in this movement with like-minded brands is refreshing and are as it bundles together our efforts. Through this platform, our brands will come out bigger.

Chenna Nenni is a high street fashion brand which caters for people who live to make that fashion statement that leaves lasting memories through their clothing.

As Chenna Nenni we are participating in the WearZim Movement because we share the same belief with participating brands that Zimbabwe fashion brands have more to offer in terms of quality and other aspects. It’s time to showcase the treasure that lies in the local fashion brands to fellow Zimbabweans.
The HOT brand is an emerging clothing line inspired by Indian and African culture. The broader line sits on the name AFRINDIE that distinguishes the line.

timLEE Designs✍🏻is a fashion house that fuses a hint of culture compliment by classy and unique garments but yet still trendy. The brand caters to all sexes and age groups.

While growth and marketing are certain, we are participating in the WearZim movement to bring people to their roots as well as promote African culture.

AfroChique is a brand created by sisters, the brand oozes love and passion as that is what anchors the brand. We are avid believers of thinking outside the box as such we design clothes the best we know how. We are young and colourful, both traits that are vividly captured in our designs. Our greatest strength is the knowledge passed down from our mother who raised us off tailoring and is quite simply Afro-Chique's backbone.

Afro Chique is participating in the WearZim movement to maximize on brand visibility as well as showcase the highest level of finesse we apply when working on our garments. In this exercise, we hope to inspire others who are equally passionate but did not study towards the fashion and design.
Our brand is barely 2 years and we have been blessed enough to consign with Humambo am an ethnic shop in Canada. We will certainly make some happy brides abroad by dressing them. The success of our brand spills over to our head designer, Tuso who is currently interning with Edgars and her collection will be featured in their stores this summer. Petreace is a World-class fashion house which produces high-quality designer clothing and accessories for men, women, and children. Petreace is participating in wear Zim because we are avid subscribers of buy and wear local and build the local fashion industry in the process as well as bring about the much-needed employment. Because of the above reason, we as Petreace are participating in Wear Zim with great hope for our beloved Nation. I'm participating in the wear local campaign because I believe we have what it takes locally only that people are not aware of the potential and the challenges we have in our textile industry, therefore, the wear local campaign is the launch pad for awareness on what we are producing locally.

S.o.G Clothing company is a local brand that started under the inspiration of turning Zim fashion designing to be competitive internationally. We dream to increase the national GDP through exports of our creative world class designs in the near future.

Philano Afrotext is a clothing brand for modern African clothing, founded and established by designer, Phillipah Rumano. Our clothing line embraces and celebrates the vast African Cultures for the bold and vibrant individuals of all ages, hence the use of vibrant bright colours in our collections.

I am participating in the Wear Zim Movement for exposure and self growth as a designer.

Soul'd dreams is an upcoming fashion brand designed and created by Tadiwa Mashiri. Soul'd dreams is a brand that looks to accommodate all looks from vintage, to eccentric bright colors and primary colors for the timid dresser. It is a blend of street style fashion fused with a true Zimbabwean look. Our distinguishing mark is the Zimbabwean Map which features on all the merchandise. Back Your Map is our motto and our social media hashtag as we look to encourage and up lift all Zimbabweans to support local products.

We are participating in the WearZim Movement because first and for most we are Zimbabweans. Being raised as Zimbabweans we understand that for most people local is not always seen as the best option and many times frowned upon. This has driven us into making a product that people can look at it and feel proud whilst wearing it anywhere around the world showing that I am Zimbabwean and proud. It is also an opportunity to broaden our reach and expand our following as we have only recently started this venture. By participating in this great campaign it is an opportunity for more people to see what we are creating and also to meet other designers who are making amazing pieces and share ideas on how we can work together to continue to shift the fashion culture in Zimbabwe

Being a designer is a gift from God and having passion.Oasis Zimbabwe is an organisation which is empowering young orphaned girls with Clothing Technology and Designing skills so that they can impart the knowledge of how one's beauty can be recognised in wearing local African fashion. The main purpose is to promote our local African clothing Industry by designing unique garments that cater for any functions/occasions.Wear Zim campaign will encourage people to like their local made garments
