I recently got selected to participate in the Fashion Product Lab hosted at the Metta Headquarters in Nairobi Kenya. A perfect opportunity to learn about skills we seldom lack. Knowledge from the program would turn my ambition to build Chenesai into a Global Brand into a reality.

First week with Vogue Magazine Celebrated Kenyan Born designer Anyango Mpinga

The thought of Kundai my 17-month-old handsome boy made the decision to participate in the Fashion Product Lad a tough one. Especially with questions like, "What about Kundai?", "he is only 17months old and needs his mother".

Alas, it dawned on me, Kundai didn't only need his mom but his family. His dad has been very instrumental in the upbringing of our son.

Dad, Mom and Kundai. How we co-parent --- Laugh. Consult. Pray

It was in this moment I realized that fathers are most often overlooked in child raising, especially in our African society. While a mother's love is important, a father's love is equally as crucial to raising a well-rounded child. We must give the father's the credit they deserve for their role in raising our sons and daughters. May we allow them to fill their roles without pride or prejudice.

For Kundai he has been very fortunate to have many father figures in his upbringing, his uncles and granddads adore him and have greatly contributed to his upbringing.

As I am away from home on this program, Kundai misses me dearly but he has a loving fathers to take care of him with the support of his uncles and granddad.

As one old adage says it takes a village to raise a child, in my case and my family this statement and the values of Ubuntu could never be truer.
